-
Gastronomy
The benchmark of Spanish gastronomy
Encina is the standard charcoal in Josper and asador kitchens: long, stable embers, hardly any sparks, neutral smoke. What burns daily in Spain's grill restaurants holds its own with demanding customers further north.
-
Quality
Quebracho-level quality – without the sea freight
Dense hardwood with over 80% fixed carbon. Encina plays in the same league as quebracho or marabú – but arrives in about five days by truck instead of weeks by container. No sea-freight exposure, no dollar risk.
-
Compliance
EUDR solved
EU origin, low deforestation risk. From the EU Deforestation Regulation's application date in 2027, every load comes with the due diligence statement including reference numbers – the basis for your own documentation.
-
Origin
An honest origin: pruning wood from the dehesa
The wood comes from the regular pruning of the dehesa – a cultivated landscape preserved through care, not clearing. Carbonisation is traditional, over 7 to 10 days. An origin story the trade can pass on.
The standard asks for 75% carbon. Encina delivers 80.15.
The Universidad de Extremadura analysis (2026) confirms that encina meets all DIN EN 1860-2 requirements for barbecue charcoal – at a clear distance from the limits. PAH-tested, sulphur not detectable. Original lab report available on request.

From 2027, origin decides.
The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) puts charcoal importers and traders under formal obligations: due diligence statements, geolocation, risk assessment. For overseas goods that becomes demanding – for EU-grown goods it stays manageable.
Encina grows in the dehesa, a managed cultivated landscape inside the EU with low deforestation risk. From the regulation's application date in 2027, every load you receive comes with the EUDR due diligence statement including reference numbers – the basis for your own documentation.
